Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

MOM'S TUESDAY TALE - THE "APPLE PUZZLE"

Hello there to all my blogging friends from across the world!
GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!

Thank you for all your positive comments last week relating to the idea of
"MOM'S TUESDAY TALE"

I have decided to implement this idea as a permanent fixture, so it's my turn today to take over MAX's blog...thank you, MAX!

---xXx---

THE APPLE PUZZLE

When my children were still small, they would delight in receiving a special "apple puzzle" gift in their school lunch-boxes. It brought such fun into their day as they showed all their little friends.

Today I would like to show you how to make the "apple puzzle"
...for that special little person in your life...

---xXx---

You need: AN APPLE (of course) and a SHARP KNIFE:
(Please be careful with the sharp knife if you teach your children this !)

1. Cut the apple through it's middle from the top-downward, but stop half-way through the process, like this picture. (below)

2. Then turn the apple over and make another similar incision BUT this time at right-angles to the first incision (as below)

3. Turn the apple on its side and cut from the end of the first incision to the end of the second incision. Repeat this on the other side of the apple. (as below)

4. Make sure that the incisions all meet in the middle of the apple and then genty pull the apple apart. (As below)

Finally....Drum roll.....

YOUR APPLE PUZZLE REVEALS ITSELF!

Present this "special gift" to your child, grand-child, friend, partner or whoever else and watch as they try and make sense of it all.

If however, you decide to give it to your pooch, don't expect him to even think about it!!!

Please let me know how your "APPLE PUZZLE" gifts were received.

With love and have a happy week!

I'll have to show that one to my grandkids. They LOVE apples and I'll bet they will get a big kick out of an apple "puzzle!" Thanks for sharing this with me! Linda

Ooops, I just read on the side that Toffee is older than Max! Sorry about that Toffee! I think... No, I KNOW I'd be a bit upset if another dog (like Sadie) came in and got more attention than I do... like even a minute more... OC

I'll be doing that for my nephews, and I bet that they'll love it!

My pooches love apples but, you're right, they wouldn't notice the puzzle. They'd just snarf the sweet apple!

Mmm...I like apples! They're like balls you can eat! But watch out for the seeds, they can be bad for puppers!

I think mom would confuse herself making that...

Very clever and cute idea. I can see some little trooper pulling the apple apart with great pleasure!

That looks like about the most fun thing you could do with an apple. Well what puzzles me is why anyone (human or dog) would want to eat an one! (Gail eats ZILLIONS of them, I really don't understand it)
Cheers, H.
PS from Gail - just to reassure you that Hamish was NOT allowed to eat all three of his birthday treat slices of liver in one go. Two are still in the fridge, to be chopped up and mixed with his normal dried food!

That's a really neat trick! My mom wants to try that the next time she has an apple. Mom tried giving me a bit of apple one time, but it didn't agree with my tummy so maybe Tagpi can enjoy the apple puzzle.

Hi there Max & Max's Mom,

We found your blog via the OP Pack.

Super cool puzzle, we hope we allow mom enough time to do this for us; as typical schnauzers we kinda bark and bark until we get fed! We lack patience ... hehehe
