Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

MAXDOG's CHRISTMAS TRIBUTE

Monday, April 12, 2010

THERE IS ALWAYS A 'FIRST TIME' TO LOOK FORWARD TO

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!!!
MAXDOG here...

Hello there to all my buddies!
It's day "65" today!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
I am okay today. I had a wonderful weekend...as you got to see in my blogpost on Saturday.
I am still soldiering on and perking up for my daily walks.

As you know, I am 10 years old but have come to realise that there are always
"First time"moments in our lives!!!
...no matter how old we are!!!...

Well, I had a "first time" moment this weekend.

You might have gathered that my MAXMOM has been quite a strict doggie-mom during my life. Most of my life I've been fed on Eukaneuba dog cubes and nothing else.
Now that I am ailing and not wanting my food, Mom has been experimenting with all sorts of food, because I WON'T EAT ANY MORE DOG CUBES!!!

Sometimes I've really enjoyed what I've eaten and then mom keeps giving it to me.
After a few days however, she'll have to try something new.

She's tried various tinned dog food, cooked chicken and rice, various dog biscuits, human foods etc etc

Well this weekend I had my first
"TOASTED CHEESE"
sandwhich ever!!!!

I LOVED IT!!!!...

Don't you just love my ears!?!

Yep, I finished it all!
Soooooo yummy!.......and soooooo un-dog-like!!!!
---xXx---

Some of my friends have also been asking about the Tumour in my liver.

Well, Mom says that it is still growing larger and is quite firm to the touch.
Some readers have also commented that it looks as if I am putting on weight...
Well, I probably am because that Tumour seems to be taking all my nutrients and I seem to have a lot less space in my abdomen. But...the rest of my body is becoming quite bony!
(My hair hides it though!)

She is hoping to explain with these photographs...

Mom says that I am not really "FAT"...
My hair and my tumour sometimes makes me look chubby in the photographs...

Mom has marked where she can feel my tumour...

In the next picture she has her hand firmly over the mass...
It is quite hard and when I lie down, I mostly tuck my back legs up next to it.
Here however I was quite relaxed and you can see that I am not "tucked up" like healthy doggies...my rib cage is next to her thumb...

As I've said before, the specialist Vets declared me inoperable on the 6th February 2010.

Mom says that I am still free from pain, but I sleep a lot and struggle with my food.

Either way, I am still here...
after 65 days!!!...
A living, walking, breathing miracle!
...who will always love you all ...
Immensely!
...and we are thankful...very thankful for the extra time we have been granted!

---xXx---

I'd also like to send my healing wishes to all the doggies, kitties and humans who are battling in some way or another.
I know that a few doggies have also been sick, including..

I'm sure they will appreciate a get-well visit!

On the positive side, if you want to see some brand new puppies, go and visit...

(These folk have only had 3 comments of welcome since Saturday and I am sure they'd love a visit! Welcome to all new puppies!!!)

Finally, if you want to read more bits and pieces in the newly revamped blog of Maxmom's, please go to:

Have a wonderful Monday!

That cheesy sandwich looks good to me too! Now I might have to make myself one! Have you tried scrambled eggs? I have known a ew ailing doggies who would not eat much but loved eggs and they are full of protein and easy for mom's to cook too! It is nice that your mom is giving you some variety because I bet that makes it more interesting! I am grateful everyday that I stop in and find you soldiering on!

Max -a reliable old soldier should have cheese sandwiches whenever he wants. On feast days and holidays a trip to the golden arches for a quarter pounder should be on the cards .

Max, you are such a fighter! Everyone here is so proud of you.
I'm glad you enjoyed your cheese sandwich. You should enjoy all types of food during the end of your life. You should experience all new things! Go to different places, and best of all, eat new food :)
Our prayers for your tumour to disappear.

Lots of love to you and your great family.

Max, toasted cheese is just the BEST! Our momma slathers it with loads of butter and tucks in loads of cheddar and American cheese before it is grilled/toasted. When you bite into a piece the butter just pours into your mouth and the cheese, well, what is NOT good about cheese! At our house we only get an occasional crust but even that is delicious. When our momma's grandsons come for a sleep-over a most requested meal is grilled/toasted cheese, chips, applesauce with cinnamon sprinkles, green beans and chocolate shakes! Us doggies can't have chocolate but you might want to ask your momma for a vanilla one - YUM!

Yesh, like you we mostly eat cubes/kibble of high quality and treats our momma makes for us (we sent you some in your package). But, every now and then a little something comes our way that was meant for a human that is delicious! Enjoy, Max, you totally deserve the special treatment!

OMD, grilled cheese is my FAVORITE!!! Well, one of my favorites! I make it pretty regularly. I'm a piggy though because I don't share any with my little chi's.

I really wish there was a way to remove that tumor! But I'm also extremely thankful that you're painfree and have remained with us for 65 days of grace! I love you, Max!

Toasted cheese yum yum.. I also love that.. Whatever you can eat I think will be ok now.. The tumour will be taking all your goodness, but so long as there is no pain.. I will go and meet your friend now.. Hugs GJ xx

Hi Max

I'm so glad you've experienced the delight of eating toasted cheese.

You're right that there are so many first time moments still left to try. Perhpas now that you've shown an interest in human food your mom might cook you some bacon and egg for breakfast or give you some of that South African Boerewors sausage (which I've never tried so you'll have to let me know if it's tasty!!!)? My favourite human food is smoked fish - I'll do anything (and I mean anything!!!) to get some. There has to be some reward for waiting all those years paitently by the human food table - and I think trying and enjoying as many different types of their food (after only having dog food) is that reward.

Luv, Riley

Natasha says Toasted Cheese is really good stuff, but the hu-dad wants to point out that she has never been offered a toasted cheese. Seems that he was preparing some lunch for himself one a day a few years ago and his toasted cheese disappeared off of the kitchen counter and Miss Natasha was in the corner smacking her lips.
