After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"

INVADING BIRDS!
We have wonderful birds here in South Africa. Tammy has often 'rescued' birds that land in our garden. She is generally very gentle with them when she finds them, but Mom gets very worried when we chase the birds. Let me tell you a secret...
"Tam' chases the Hadeda Ibisis - who come into our garden to search for snails - every morning."
I think Mom knows about this. But Toffee is the worst...he's aggressive with any flying object which comes into our garden.
I think my pack are having fun with this past-time of chasing birds...perhaps I'll join them. What do you think?

A VISIT TO THE VET
Hey Guys!
In the past week we all went to our pretty Vet for all our innoculations. I always enjoy visits to the Vet... . We get to see "Garfield", the Vet's cat and I get to watch Toffee do gymnastics on her table. Unlike me, Toffee hates the vet. He's such a wimp and nearly wets himself at every visit. It's a huge embarrassment for the pack. Mom has to hold him tight else he'd fall onto the floor. I think that it perhaps has something to do with him being neutered (?).
Anyway, she checked us all out and we are generally all ok. Tammy had to go back to the Vet during last week to have a small wart removed from her eyelid and she also went in for a dental scaling. My teeth however are good - I can probably last another few months before I need them cleaned too. Generally we all have pretty good teeth - maybe its due to us being fed only on an Eukaneuba diet. I know though, that Tammy finds things in the garden to snack on... perhaps that's why her teeth get dirtier faster.
Yea, winter is definitely on it's way. My coat is finally growing long again after Mom shaved me in Spring last year. The sun goes down earlier nowadays, so between Tammy and I we convince Mom that supper time should be earlier. If we moan long enough and run around wildly, she gets the hint and feeds us. Food....my best!! But when food is over, we club together again and insist on our walk. Walk...my best!
That's all for now. Happy digging.
Luv Max

CAN A SNOUT COMPARE?
It is obvious, from the picture taken, that I find my dog's snout amazing!!
DID YOU KNOW THE FOLLOWING:??
* That the longer the dog's nose, the better sniffer and smell detector he/she is!
* Some dogs are bred for their sense of smell... to become hunters, trackers or sniffer dogs. Some dogs can even detect cancer through their sense of smell
* A dogs nose is wet to attract moisture; it collects molecules from its surroundings in order to smell and interpret them.
* A dog licks its nose to keep it moist in order to enhance its smell.
* A dog's nasal membranes are far bigger than those of humans. Indeed its olfactory bulbs are 4 times larger than ours.
* Proportionately to ours, a dog devotes more of its brain to its sense of smell.
* When a dog smells around, he is in fact "Reading the News" of the world around him.
So, be aware of your dog...when he puts his snout up in the air and sniffs deeply, accept that there is something unusual happening around!
