Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

MEETING JEANIE!

mmmWOOF!
GREETINGS FROMSOUTH AFRICA!!!

(Thought we'd just start off this blogpost by showing you a picture of South Africa's
"African wild dog")
---xXx---

Ok now, so you've seen our wild dogs!
Let's get on with the blogpost...

Hello there all my furry friends!
MAXDOG here ...hello to ALL my buddies...old and new!
We have had such a full weekend with all the family at home.
There has been lots of activity in our house.
...and we met a new friend!
"JEANIE"

JEANIE is a really cute little Golden Cocker Spaniel. She is just over 4months old and came to visit us. Her owner wanted her introduced to us 'BIG' dogs, so we most willingly obliged...

It was a hectic time of introduction with JEANIE yapping away initially.
She eventually settled down and joined in the line up for photos...
(Unfortunately we left TOFFEE out of it...'purple butterflies' make him somewhat unpredictable!)
JEANIE WAS REALLY CUTE!
Thank you for visiting us, Jeanie! Come again soon!
---xXx---

Later on in the evening, the family decided to have a traditional
SOUTH AFRICAN BRAAI!

I helped the Boss get the fire ready, whilst the girls did the salads and Mom made roast butternut. The guys spent the evening chatting up the girls and pouring drinks.

No SOUTH AFRICAN braai is complete without
"BOEREWORS"!!! (Above)...
(Translated as 'Farmers sausage')

The girls however prefer 'braaied' (grilled) chicken!

I helped the Boss all the while and I think he enjoyed my company!

After the meal, all our humans gathered around the coals to make
"STOK BROOD"
(Bread made on sticks. Later the stick is removed and filled with something sweet...
cinnamon sugar, jam etc)

It takes quite a while for the STOK BROOD to cook,
so we all sat around chatting.
I, the MAXDOG, managed to sneak a number of treats for the whole pack!!!
Yum!!!!

It was a really festive evening with lots of laughing and joking.
My human family and friends ended up playing all sorts of board games into the middle of the night!
BYE-BYE VISITORS!
Hope our cyber guests also enjoyed our
TRADITIONAL SOUTH AFRICAN BRAAI!
Hope you all have a wonderful, peaceful Sunday!
Lots of licks

My nephew is one of those cocker dogs and he was pretty nippy and yappy when he met me, but we worked things out. You look great in that line-up.

So many foodables! Yummers!

The wild doggies sure have long legs. I guess they have to run fast, huh?

Slobbers,
Mango

MaxDog! Those African WildDogs look scarier than our coyotes! We're hopin' they don't ransack the neighborhoods! You'll have to teach Jeanie all about them, and how to be selective about who to be friends with! YOU and Tammy are a great introduction to gentleness! (We hope Toffee is feeling better soon.) And now you've introduced us to your traditional braai! (How do you pronounce it? It looks like a word we might be able to "bay" and ask for grilled supper!) Oh my doggies, we're drooling on the keyboard. Great food! Great friends. Great time. (Great post.)

It's about time for the season to change. Happy Equinox! (Right?)

Love,
Jake and Fergi xxoo

When we glanced at your first picture, we had a half of a second where they looked like a sled dog team with a line out. Pretty cool.

We love helping on cook-outs, though amazingly, we usually do not get to sit as close as you do.

I thought you were going to say you met Jeanie, Marvin's Mom! Your little Jeanie is a doll and will be a lovely addition to your pup friends.
So, an SA bobbiecue is called a braai! Everything looks yummy and I know you had a great time!

Those wild dogs look scary! Do they come visiting or stay in the bush?

Kisses,
Stella

Hey there Everyone.
TWO QUICK QUESTIONS ANSWERED:

1. The pronunciation for 'BRAAI' IS:
brrrr(as in cold!)....aah (as in surprised!)...i (as in "it")

2. Our dangerous wild life (And African hunting dogs are one of them!) DO NOT come and visit us in the cities! We have many game parks where they make their homes in totally natural and extensive surroundings. These dogs are threatened and to see a sighting is not only rare, but a real privelege!

Those pups have ears on them like Ammy. Ha roo roo roo! Just kidding....
Hey, Jeanie looks really cute! And mmm.... I'll have some of that braaied chicken, please! Did your mom make the butternut recipe our mom sent? Either way, we'd love to hear more about that!
Mmm... and those bread sticks... did you get to try those, Max? We wish we'd been there!
Play bows,
Zim

Well that was just a fabulous post! How fun to see what an African BBQ is like! I am wondering how you do your roast butternut? That sounds incredible. Your dessert also sounds very clever. "Purple butterflies" That is hilarious. Jeanie is super cute, but not as cute as Maxdog. Thanks for sharing! I wish I could sit down with you guys and share a meal!

Hello!

Jeanie looks just like my old yellow friend, he was also a golden cocker spaniel with cute blonde hair and a great spirit! He also growled at unfamiliar people and could yap when threatened.

I'd like to add, that another possible variation of the pronunciation of the word 'braai' is: 'brr' (as in cold - as Max said) or 'br' as in bra (you know, those strange suspension things female humans wear?) and then 'eye' as in eyeball. Speaking of bras, I have seen some men who should wear them too! Have you?

When I read Max's version / description of how to pronounce 'braai' I was not sure our overseas friends would totally understand, so I thought a second 'sounds like' would be helpful :)

Wow Max, that must have taken discipline not to snatch all that wonderful food off the braai! You can be proud of yourself.
