Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

TOFFEE & TOMMY

Hey Guys
MAXDOG HERE
GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!

(Weaver Bird nests in our White Stinkwood tree)

I must congratulate my pretty girlfriend on an excellent post yesterday.

She sure does have the feminine touch – adding a little “X” factor to my blog!

THANK YOU, TAMMY!

TOFFEE’s recovery continues, although his butt looks like that of one of our SOUTH AFRICAN baboons! He seems to have ‘perked up’ (he-he) remarkably in the past 24 hours. Wow, that VALIUM is amazing stuff!

(Check him out with his head on the desk, whilst Mom helps me with my blog!)

I must say, however, that at first I was very confused…

TOFFEE wasn’t recognizing me, so was barking at me like I was some sort of intruder! I didn’t like that at all …he was acting real weird!! It seems that Toffee was truly chasing those ‘purple butterflies’. Also, the minute Mom got up to go anywhere, Toffee was at her side!. Unfortunately his legs were very unsteady, so he kept falling all over the place. Tammy and I were silently giggling with his anctics and wondering if this was indeed all part of his act.

The good news is ...he’s stopped licking his butt. His own Mom (Robyn) got home from university last night, so he spent the night on her bed! ……manipulative little fluff ball!!!

---xXx---

Now many of my readers have asked me about our other household doggie…

TOMMY.

Today I’ve decided to tell you TOMMY’s story to clear up any confusion…

TOMMY is a dear little doggie. YES, he still lives in this household!

He has been with us for nearly 5 years- since Granny relocated to Johannesburg to take up residence in a retirement village nearby. Although TOMMY is truly part of our pack, we don’t blog much about him. He is a very old doggie!
He is deaf and nearly blind and spends most of his day just sleeping in one of the soft doggie beds available. His health is really poorly at the moment and the Vet has suggested that we just
‘let him be’.

Tommy spent 8 years of his life living on a farm and then in a small village for a short while. During those 8 years he spent a highly energetic life chasing monkeys, getting lost in the bush and sampling all sorts of foods in his neighbours’ food bowls.

He socialized, at will, with many other doggies and had totally free reign of his abode. It was life of unencumbered ‘doggie heaven’! This came with consequences, however, since he was often riddled with ticks, worms and an assortment of allergies.

His other devotion, was/is Granny. He is her "little treasure" and has slept by her feet during the loss of Grandpa, her farm, her home and her health. He has been a truly faithful little doggie throughout his life. Even now, after 5 years in my household, he still waits at the door for Granny on a Sunday morning.

The reality for little TOMMY however is that he is now truly in his twilight years and moving closer to the rainbow bridge. He has a problem with one of his salivary glands and a number of other problems which would require surgery, but our Vet has suggested that he is NOT a candidate for surgery. Mom has decided that the best thing for TOMMY is to care for him like any old person…with love and compassion, ensuring his comfort and ensuring that he is not in any pain.

When TOMMY gets to the point when life is no longer fun, then perhaps we will consider putting him to sleep. In the meantime, TOMMY is happy just simply being part of us. He still goes for the occasional walk, albeit very slowly and loves a cuddle. When Granny comes to visit (usually on a Sunday), TOMMY spends all his time with her. They have always been a team and that too hasn’t changed.

So there you have it…that is the story of our 4th household doggie:
TOMMY
---XxX--
As for me....
I'M TAKING THE WEEKEND OFF!

Have an awesome weekend!

Lots of licks

I hope Toffee's bottom gets better soon so he can stop staggering about like a drunken sailor.

It is nice to meet Tommy. That is how my Grandpa Angus the Airedale was. He just kind of stayed in his bed and faded away, but he will enjoyed a good snuggle.

Mango

Glad Toffee is "enjoying" the magic medicine. Hope for much improvement soon.

And thanks for sharing about Tommy. The old ones have earned the right to be left alone out of respect.

Hi Max - ahhhh, 'the bunny' is one of our favourite relaxing positions too! You look really cool - great photo!

Poor Toffee - we're glad he's feeling better though and we hope he's back to his old self really soon.

What a great story about Tommy! We really enjoyed finding out more about him. We're glad he's still a happy doggie and how lovely that your wonderful family are helping him to enjoy his twilight years in a peaceful fashion.
