There is a rather delicate matter which I, the TOFFEE-DOG, need to address. MAX is resting at the moment, so I thought it would be an appropriate time to do so.
You see, I read everything on this blog...including the COMMENTS! Some of MAX’s readers don't quite understand that I am NOT A GIRL!!! Today I want to clear up this awkward matter.

I AM KING TOFFEE!...not queen
I AM NEUTERED!...not spayed
I AM ARROGANT AND FERROCIOUS!...not demure
I AM A BOY!....not a girl
I AM A BROTHER!...not a sister
I AM A “MR”! ...not a “Mrs”, “Miss” or “Ms”
I AM KING TOFFEE!

(You see, I even help MAX patrol the perimeter!...this is dominant, MALE behaviour and certainly not a task for whimps!)Now one distinctive trait about a Maltese DOG is that we DO NOT openly display our wares!
Unlike larger DOGS (such as Golden Retrievers) we prefer to keep our family jewels hidden. You will NOT, for example, find me lying on my back!!! I simply don’t submit!
So, although I am a ‘Yippee-Yappy-Happy-Chappy’ I want you to remember that
I am KING!!!!....not queen!

With that ‘small’ matter cleared up, let’s get on to today’s post...
It is Friday today and I thought I would treat you all to a bit of a ‘giggle’ (hopefully).
Over the past few weeks I have tried to collect some pictures depicting some of the ‘everyday’ scenes we see here in Johannesburg South Africa...
Our 'TAXI's are part of everyday life....they go anywhere and everywhere they choose to...at will ... and have their own set of road rules! Robots (traffic lights), for example are ignored...
And they are usually in a state of disrepair...
But like me....TAXI's RULE!!!
General lawlessness in our country is also part of everyday life.
How about these "passengers" standing on the tow-bar of a moving vehicle?
With general lawlessness, road accidents are common and the entrepreneurial 'VULTURES' await their feast...
...but ordinary citizens try hard to make a living...
Some however, don't quite get the point...
Other's cook meals on the side of the road...to sell to weary passers-by.
They too put up walls around their property...
...but construction is taking place everywhere in preparation for all our visitors in July...
Yes, our society is colourful. Each day is a challenge and is filled with possibility.

But technology is everywhere!!!

Well, it is sometimes difficult when one's equipment is so difficult to spot. No worries. My Beautiful Raja got called a boy a lot just because she was big. Not to mention momma could never find a girlie collar in a 30" neck size. You just keep doing your thing and don't worry if people get confused.

KING Toffee. I will try very hard not to ever make that mistake. I can understand how it might upset a tough dog like you. You are the KING of the little dogs in your pack.
You make an excellent tour guide, showing us the day-to-day sights that I've never seen. That little wood house - I saw a bunch of those in rural mexico with people selling things from them in the most deserted spots on earth. I feel bad in retrospect because I actually almost laughed - it seemed so silly to try to sell things in places with no one around. But, I guess that the little tiny wood structures aren't only rural mexico - thy're in S. Africa too!
I think of you, MaxDog, and your whole family every day. Your grace astounds me. What a strong family you are! Take good care of your brother, King Toffee.

Our Charlie knows how you feel, before him all we had were girl dogs so the command for pee outside was "go be a good girl!" or so when I say that at the door I feel bad for him and say "and charlie, you be a good boy!" We have to keep our dignity after all.
Toffee you can be sure that no one in France ever doubted your masculine credentials - you are indeed 'le roi'. Of course you can be cute and top dog at one and the same time!

We always love the tours. Today's was a little sad, though, to see so many people struggling. But, you know, over here our economy is awful, too, and more and more we see people in food lines and homeless. Never, ever thought we'd see the US so depressed...

King Toffee! The things you must go through to prove your male-ness. Darwin has the same problem, though everyone thinks shes a HE not a SHE. I know the name doesn't help, but you would think the pink bejeweled collar would be a big hint. Even after we point out she's a girl, many people still refer to her as a him. OI.

For a King you're quite a bitch; or in your case as you have so definitively pointed out, a SON of a bitch. We humbly acknowledge your maleness. A bit TMI though in regard to your gender; were you failing in obedience school and you had to be tutored? How come guys are tutored and girls are sprayed? What do they spray them with?
Please rest assured that you are doing remarkably well as a tour guide for such a little fella. OBTW: Taxi drivers and taxis are evidently the same world over. We know that they're the same in Boston, Philadelphia, New York City, Bangkok, and Washington D.C. as you describe them as being in Johannesburg.
OBTW: We're pretty sure that both Boru and Alex are bigger than you; and they're kitties.

Toffee! We have those weird cellphone trees too! The first time she saw one, she nearly wrecked the car whipping her head around for a 2nd look. She was so amazed she turned around and drove back to take a picture of it! Paint a pole brown and plug in fake limbs and leaves. We are waiting on the next hurricane to see how it holds up.

King Toffee, we hope we have never made that mistake, but from past experience, we know our Mom has mistaken the gender of a few of our kitty furiends. She is even having trouble calling Ciara a she and not a he. We think you make a wonderful King too.

It's fascinating how busy you are these days. We think that helping your mom with home chores, checking out the perimeter, inspecting the garden, helping out with the tour guide duties and of course, watching over dear Max shows how much you are on top of things there.
