MAXDOG THE SHEEP!

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!!!

MAXDOG here...!

Hello there to all my furry buddies across the world!

I have always been a “working dog”!
More specifically, I have always “worked” for my treats. I can write books about the things I have done and the acts I have performed in the pursuit of treats! It is important, as an aging Golden, to adapt to the times and the changes in one's household.

Well in the past 24 hours I have played, in my opinion, one of my greatest roles ever!
I have substituted as a SHEEP!
Yes, you heard correctly! This MAXDOG, in pursuit of a treat, substituted as a sheep! And guess what?
I was REALLY treated!
 Let me explain...

Many of you will know that Miss “R” is busy studying and practicing towards her life’s ambition of qualifying as a Vet. She’s only in her second year at the moment, but is living her dream!

Each weekend she returns home from university and tells us tales of her endeavours. We’ve learnt about the names of strange plants, unusual chemicals, diverse creatures and the endless hours of studying she has to put in to eventually look after and help us animals.

In the past two weeks, Miss “R” has woken before sunrise to learn to milk cows, attend to goats, control bulls and catch sheep! When she got home this morning she was eager to show off her new skills to us all.
I was involuntarily volunteered to be THE SHEEP!

At first I was a little unsure, but I knew I’d get big cuddles and something yummy and I was hanging around Miss “R”s feet. Well, while she was talking and stroking me, she asked me to stand, explaining to her audience that I was the sheep!?!

At first I was confused!?!
I mean, I might look like a sheep (Really?!?) but I certainly can’t go “Baaaaa....h!”
She didn’t think this deficiency was important though, so I stood very still for her.

Then she told them that the first thing to do, in order to catch this MAXDOG SHEEP, was to grab just above my “hock” (Do I have a hock?!?...I don’t think so!)...and to put pressure on my Achilles tendon. This meant that I would find it difficult to kick her (As if I would kick her!?!).

Whilst I was in this position, Miss “R” leant forward and put her other arm around my chest. For a moment I, the MAXDOG SHEEP, thought that I was going to receive one of those blissful extended hugs...but NO! Miss “R” manoeuvred her hand to gently pull my other leg. Without further ado I found myself seated on the floor! Can you believe it!?! It would have been much easier to simply ask me to “SIT!” Nevertheless my role was to be...
 the acquiescing “MAXDOG SHEEP”,
so I obliged!

I must say, if this is what it means to be a “caught sheep” then I don’t mind at all!

There are lots of cuddles and treats at the finish line, together with the knowledge that I have contributed towards a Vet’s education!

Good luck, Miss “R”!
You are going to make a wonderful Vet!
With lots of licks from
MAXDOG THE SHEEP

---xXx---

A NOTE FROM MAXMOM...

Dear friends
Thank you so much for all the wonderful birthday wishes for Maxdog yesterday.
He is doing really wonderfully on this his
35th DAY OF GRACE!
...and we continue to be really thankful for this!

. This blogpost today is designed in an attempt to lighten things up and to try and bring a smile to you all. "Maxdog the sheep" is a lighthearted account of what it is to be a dog in a family with a prospective Vet. Despite Max's illness he loves being part of everything in this household!

Great job Max. You make a really good sheep :) It sounds pretty exciting to have a future Vet in the house. We could all learn so much!

I hope you have a great weekend.

Kisses,
Emma Rose

The 'lighthearted' update of Max being treated as a sheep was a great start to the afternoon. Did anyone try that on Toffee or are some things simply not worth trying? Having a fledgling vet in the family must be a boon at a time like this.

Woooos Max! I get to be sheep all of the time too! but I think that is because a certain little border collie thinks I am one... silly dog!
I hope woo had fun! Sometimes it is!

Great job acting as a sheep to help Miss R in her learning. I would love to help animals to the extent of being a Vet, but I can't stomach the nasty and cruel side.

Tell your Miss R to learn about recognizing animal abuse in it's many forms.
I tell you this because I heard of a vet that kept treating a dog with injuries over and over just recently. Turns out the owner repeatedly slammed the dog into her deck and then would beat it with a shovel. Then she would take it to the vet for it's injuries. This happened over and over. The A.S.P.C.A. then went in, after someone taped the dog crying during an accident.

The vet should have there license stripped from them.

So please, tell her to tune her gut feelings into the animals asking to be heard.

lol,
Patricia

BRAVO! BRAVO! ENCORE! Oh, that was a Most Wonderful and Convincing portrayal of a sheep, Max! I mean, there for a moment, I really thoughts you were a sheep. I mean, I've never seen a sheep but I bets if I did, they would look just like you!

I wonder if you will gets a Dogcademy Award for that performance?

Wiggles & Wags,
Mayzie

Baaaaah Max,
GReat job filling in as a sheep. We can kinda emphasize with you; our mom is in Vet Tech school and often uses us to practice and check stuff out. She's always poking or prodding us and now she even gives us most of our shots, the rabies inoculation has to be done by Dr. Witter but mom can do almost all the other routine stuff now. We haven't had to be sheep yet, but we have fond memories of mom's course that covered restraint and handling.
Be assured that we pray daily for your continued GRace and have you always in our hearts and thoughts. Bah Ram Ewe, we love you Max.

And a fine looking sheep you are! Certainly a softer and more luxurious coat. I didn't know you had a future vet in the house. Good for you! (Just be careful; next weekend, she might be studying something like dentistry. Yikes!) Woofs to you all!

Maxmom, today's post did bring a smile to us all.

Max, you appear to have been a terrific standin "sheepdog" for the prospective vet. We imagine you are a big help to Miss R's studies.

Max, I think you did a wonderful job as a sheep! And of course if it involved hugs and treats that's not a bad thing at all!! :) And, last but not least, you're contributing to the education of someone who's going to help animals, and that is just fantastic!

Max,

You're cuter than any sheep I've ever seen! Mom said that she used to have sheep on the farm when she was little and that they are fun, but probably a little tougher to catch than you were! Tee hee!

Nothing "sheepish" about you, dear Max!! PS to MaxMom there was a South African man interviewed on our local TV (KTUU.com) on Saturday March 6 at the start of the Iditarod. He was very very excited to be in Anchorage and hoped one day to race in the Iditarod.... I forgot to mention that to you... xoxoxo

A SHEEP!!! WE would have had an pawsome time "herding" you in sheep mode! We could have helped to corral you for your "vet" to work on! How nice to have a person who is learning so much about animals... I'll bet she's learned just the perfect spots to massage and pet, too!

You are so kind to allow her to demonstrate her knowledge on you, Max. Love and prayers, The CCC
