Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

SOME FRIDAY FUN!

mmmWOOF!!!
GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!
MAXDOG here...

Hello there all my furry friends across the world.

How do you like this picture of sunset over our city - with its famous skyline?
(TAMMY'S MOM took it yesterday from the eastern side of our city)

Well I was thinking...since it is FRIDAY and nearly weekend, let's have some fun!!!
I am not sure if you are aware, but SOUTH AFRICANS love laughing at themselves. This is a trait we have developed, as a nation, due to all the hardships we have faced.
Laughter is a wonderful thing! It brings lightheartedness to the stresses of the world!
So today, I am going to present to you some of the 'funny' signs which you might see if you came to visit us.
(Yes, Mom has found them on the internet, so they are NOT her photos, but seem to be generally available for us all to look at)
Here goes....
MAXDOG PRESENTS....
THE FUNNY SIDE OF SOUTH AFRICA...

Well hope that brought you all a few SOUTH AFRICAN laughs!

Okay, now for today's catch up...

It's almost sunset here in Johannesburg and we have had a rainy day. When Mom saw the weather this morning, she popped off to one of the shopping centres to buy this book (which she has been wanting for a while). I have been lying down next to her for most of the day while she has sprinted through this FANTASTIC story!

So I thought I'd grab the book out from under her and show you all!

The book is called "Part of the Pride" and has only just been released! It is co-authored by Kevin Richardson (our local lion whisperer) together with the well known Australian author, Tony Park. Kevin is an animal behaviourist who spends most of his time with some of the most dangerous animals of Africa. It truly is an incredible read and would be a wonderful gift for anyone who is interested in the the human-animal bond.

A film has also recently been produced
(due for release in February 2010) called
"WHITE LION"
and tells this amazing story. We brought Kevin Richardson to your attention some time ago, when we posted his video-link on this blog. If you haven't seen it yet, you can see it here.

Okay, so that's my recommendation for the day. It's getting late and the storm clouds are building, so I am going to pester mom for our walk!!!

Have a pawsome day!

TUESDAY'S TASTE OF SOUTH AFRICA

mmmWOOF!
GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA
MAXDOG here...

Hello there all my very special furry friends!!!

As you know, on Sunday we participated in the

HOSPICE WALK FOR CHARITY

here in Johannesburg. It was quite hot during the walk and very tiring, so I took Mom's advice and have spent the last day just sleeping it off!!!

Well, my mate, the little 'squirt' - TOFFEE - decided it was a good idea to sleep it off too! (Never mind the fact that he DIDN't participate in the walk!!!)

TOFFEE has now permanently annexed the chair next to Mom's bed!
He feels it gives him 'elevated' status in this house
.....Soooooo NOT TRUE!

Well at least he doesn't bother me when he's sleeping, so I am going to play the "Tour Guide" today and show you a few pictures of some fun things we have seen in the past couple of days in Johannesburg...
This is 'Northcliff hill' - a landmark in our city - with it's water tower on top!

It's JACARANDA season and the Jacaranda trees are ALL in full bloom. Our city is a pretty picture of purple flowering trees!
(Look how 'Northcliff hill' is surrounded by Jacaranda trees!)

Some of the main roads are also lined with these pretty trees!

Here is a little 'makeshift' roadside stall where curios are on sale to tourists.
(Beadwork is a big thing here in South Africa and you will find these types of stalls all over the place!)

Weaving is also popular as a craft!. Here are some
"DOGGIE BASKETS"
on sale at the side of a road.

---xXx---

Another interesting thing happened last evening which disturbed my quiet reverie...
It is 'rainy season' here in South Africa at the moment and that means

RAIN SPIDERS!!!

When it rains, they seek shelter in our houses. Although they are NOT neurotoxic, Mom is a bit freaked out by them. Well, yesterday evening, while Mom was cooking supper, I heard a shriek from the kitchen. Us dogs ran to the kitchen to see what was happening and there she stood, like one of your halloween contraptions...
The spindly dude had casually strolled into her working space. She wasn't impressed at all -stood there all shivering and useless!! Luckily "the Boss" came to the rescue and was about to throw the spindly dude outside, when Mom proclaimed in a broken voice,
"Wait! Flashy beast!"

(Beware...sensitive viewers!!!)

This guys is about 15cm long...rather large I'd say!!!

AND he looks scary too!

Dear friends, will this suffice as our 'Halloween' contribution to bloggie-land?

Well that's all our news for today.
We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to those bloggie friends who have voted for us for the
AWESOME BLOG AWARD!
We really appreciate your support and vote of confidence.
Have a pawsome day!

WALKING FOR CANCER

mmmWOOF!
GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!
MAXDOG here...

Hello there all my furry buddies! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
Yesterday morning before the sun rose and when the birds were just starting to chirp, TAMMY & I realised that something was up! We just knew it! It was 'WALKIES TIME'! We got our humans up and dressed and then we dashed to the car. We are always ready for the action of the day and they are always soooo SLOW!!!

The drive took us to a special lake, called ZOO LAKE (because it is next to the zoo) and as we drove around looking for parking, I realised this was where our walk would be!

Mom told us that the walk was in aid of

"HOSPICE WITWATERSRAND"

and that we would be walking to help raise funds for Cancer.

Mom put on our special Bandannas so that we would know that we should have to be on our best behaviour.

The place was packed with people and all sorts of dogs, but our first stop was
the "ROYAL CANIN DOG FOOD" tent,
where we went to meet some special people who are interested in our blog (and us!!!). They were one of the sponsors for this special walk and do a lot of good for doggies in
SOUTH AFRICA.
Meet Tarryn and Stewart (above) - part of the team - and who will soon be the proud people to provide a 'forever home' to their new rescue doggie, also called 'Max'. They are such friendly people and gave us lots of hugs.
Then it was time to meet another new buddy...

"OBI"...a mantle Great Dane.

Sheesh!, but he's big - at first I though he was a horse!!!.

(Hey Honey, Shiloh & Chelsea - I didn't realise you guys were soooo huge!!!)

In my 10 years of life, I have never actually met a Great Dane, so I decided that it was best to be friends!!! He walked the whole way with us and I had to dodge his slobber! But he's a cute kid and only 3 yrs old. He and his Great Dane mates have invited us to be 'Or-Daned' by their club on the 22nd November 2009. We most certainly will be posting about that after the event...!

Then it was time to make friends with some of the little humans!

After that we made our way to the start

TAMMY & I waited patiently

Then we were off!...

We passed some ducks! (Don't blame me if I drooled)

But we were soon off again...

It was a hot sunny day, but they had provided well for us doggies!...

Whew! It was hot!
This was the doggie 'watering-hole'
What fun!!!

They also gave us special water-bottles to drink along the way.

Some doggies were so hot that their owners had to carry them! (BOL!)

After 4kms we were at the finish line, where we got lots of pressies!!!:
dog leads, dog bowls, vouchers, bandannas AND WATER AGAIN!!!
(The humans got their own pressies too!)

I made a collage - above - of some of the "doggie-types" on the walk.
(Don't you think the little Yorkie is cute with her pink bow!?!...AND the 'SHAVED' Siberian Husky too! By the way, shaving is the best thing for furry doggies here in SA - to keep them cool from the heat...and Yes, I have been shaved at times too!)

Well, that was our fantastic day!
(psst...I stole a ball from Royal Canin's watering hole, but it didn't last long!)
Thanks for joining me on our fun walk-
HOSPICE WITWATERSRAND ZOO LAKE WALK
Have a wonderful day and get walking!!!
