HEART-DOG'S-CROSSING

"RUFFITWOOD DANCING SPRING"
Affectionately known as..
MAX
12 March 2000 - 24 May 2010

HEART-DOG’S-CROSSING by Caryl Moll.
Ship passes in the night
touching dreams. “Behold the Light!”
Stops only a little while
to take aboard a Golden smile.

Sails waft in gentle breeze
waits the dog to be at ease.
Boards the ship, the sun descending,
to greater mission perhaps pending.

Sniffing salty air of preservation,
drops to deck to take his station.
Captain smiles, “Dog’s day is done!"
"But come, my boy, to another one!”

I feel the weight of a leaded heart
to say farewell, for now we part.
Seagulls cry, “Oh! What a glow!
His brilliant light, don’t we know!”

In the distance, ears alert,
his eye focussed, away from hurt
to a bridge, to be sailed across,
a rainbow to behold, NOT a loss!

Barks say “Enter!” Up he stands.
Sounds of welcome from distant lands.
The sea sends back his gentle soul
to touch my heart, to make me whole.
---xXx---
I said goodbye to my dearest companion at 10.25 this morning.
"Fly free my darling Max!"
With love

Oh Caryl, I am so sorry. Your beautiful poem reflects a beautiful life that was lived to the full and is now at peace. Max will be mourned the whole world over, we were all that bit richer for knowing him.
In time, the desperate sadness that you feel today will fade a little, but the joy that Max brought to you and your family throughout his life will endure.
Much love,

He was such a part of the family that we know how you must be feeling. I'm so glad that you were able to share your birthday with him. Our friends witness so many important family moments - first kisses, good school reports, bad school reports, rugby matches won, rugby matches lost, grandmothers, grandfathers, the list goes on. When they finally go a little bit of us goes with them - they are special confidantes. You are so much in our thoughts and prayers this lunchtime. He was a magical fellow.

If I should ever leave you,
Whom I love
To go along the silent way.
Grieve not
Nor speak of me with tears.
But laugh and talk of me
As if I were beside you there.
(I'd come. . .I'd come,Could I but find a way!
But would not tears and grief be barriers?)
And when you hear a song Or see a bird I loved,
Please do not let the thought of me
Be sad. . .for I am loving you
Just as I always have. . .You were so good to me!
There are so many things I wanted still to do. . .
So many things I wanted to say to you. . .
Remember that I did not fear. . .
It was
Just leaving you
That was so hard to face.
We cannot see beyond. . .
But this I know:
I loved you so.
. .'twas heaven here with you!

Dear Max Mom,
My heart breaks for you. What a journey you and Max took over the years. You were with him each and every step through 10 wonderful, active productive years loving him with all your heart to the end when he fought so hard. Max was truly and inspiration to all who knew him and read about him.
What a beautiful poem in his honor.
Take care of yourself...don't be surprised if you see shadows of Max here and there. When we lost our first dear kitty after 14 1/2 years there were times we heard him scratching in his box but he wasn't there nor was the box. Times when I saw his shadow and even times when I heard him crunching on his kibble. He was just telling me all was well over the bridge. Run free sweet Max.

Max Mom,
There's a solemn hush around the blogosphere; one of the bright candles in our house has been extinquished but a bright new star has suddenly appeared in the heavens above us. Your love continues to shine brightly.

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me ‘til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its’ last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

We love you Max Dog. You'll always be with us all.

Tribute To A Best Friend

Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor....
then I remember,
it's where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
and muted echoes sound....
then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,
and up beyond the hill,
then I remember it can't be yours....
your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor
and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
I'll wrap these treasured memorials
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
until we meet above.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
