Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

THE ZEBRA - OUR DONKEY IN PYJAMAS

mmmWOOF!

Hi everyone, Max here. It’s time for some Friday Fun again...playing the tour guide.

You might have noticed that one of the toys in my collection is a ZEBRA, so this time I thought I’d tell you all about our African” Donkeys-in-pyjamas”...

THE ZEBRA

These beautiful, wild horse-like creatures roam our wild plains in herds or “harems” (groups of females with one male). They have black/brown and white stripes and impressive mowhawk-like manes.

There are about 3 different species in Africa. Each individual zebra however has a specific pattern of its own. It’s something like a fingerprint – a unique identification pattern. It has been recorded, however, that if a zebra is born with a particularly unusual pattern, it will most likely NOT survive since it is thrown out of the herd.

ZEBRAS are hunted by lions and hyenas, but also African hunting dogs, leopards and cheetahs. Their defence is their herd. They are very social animals and together they all keep a watchful eye open for danger.

If you are interested in some videos, I recommend the following two:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vub04F8CWng... where you will see two zebras in a “zebra tango”or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9HCk1r4OWg&feature=fvw
... where you can see lots of stunning zebra pictures.

In the meantime, maybe you would like to answer this question:

ARE THESE CREATURES “BLACK WITH WHITE STRIPES” or “WHITE WITH BLACK STRIPES”?

I personally think that they are White with Black stripes.

Well, that’s all for now. Have a stunningly barkful weekend.
Tonsaluv MAXDOG.

Great post Max!!

Can't wait until the little man comes in from his summer camp today so we can read through it again and watch the videos!!

Think we've mentioned previously about his love of South Africa and wild animals - zebras, giraffes - you name it - he wants to see it! I feel another visit to Dublin Zoo coming on!

Have a great weekend

Hey Max! Nice to meet you and thanks for visiting us! We'd love to follow you if that's ok, your blog seems right up our street but we might not visit much until we're properly back online (these dumb pcs at the library aren't letting us see pictures on some blogs so visiting is pretty pointless and any comments would probably be irrelevent anyway!)
See you soon friend!
Slobbers xx

Woof, Max! Great seeing you again. Why is there so much water between where you and I live? Who put it there? I do not even know if I can swim!? Can you swim?
My Mummy is really going all the way to make sure that I only get the best of everything; especially attention, discipline and excercise (maybe not in this exact order!). Mummy is a real Cesar Milan fan and follows almost all his programs to grasp this Dog Psychology thingy.
Mummy says that seeing all the South African wild animals again makes her home-sick (does that mean she is going to oops in the home?) Anyway, I love visiting and reading about your new interesting stories. Wish you lived closer so that I could socialise.
Give your Mummy love from my Mummy, please.
Keep well, Max, and also the rest of your pack.
Woof
Paxton

I agree, I think they are white with black stripes. Definitely beautiful animals. I am jealous you get to see these. Thanks for the great website! I am loving exploring it. I would love to see how Africa scored. Very cool! Have a great weekend!

Max
You are clearly very knowledgeable so perhaps you could solve a mystery for me. In the UK, our humans have invested lots of money in marking roads with 'zebra crossings' but I have never once seem a zebra going across one of them. In fact I don't think we have any zebras here at all - certainly not in Aberdeen. Tell me, are humans stupid or something?
Cheers, a puzzled Hamish.

Hi Max,

We love your blog and we will be coming back for more of your stories. My humans are talking about going to Africa (nope, not the south), some place call Tanzania (wherever that is?).

Those zebras (whatever that is?) look so trendy with the black and white stripes. Is this the latest fashion in the canine world?

Love,
Homer

The famous Capt. Kangaroo said zebras were just a horse in striped pajamas . . .maybe he was wrong!
