Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

ODE TO CAT!

mmmWOOF!

Hey there all my furry friends. Hope you guys are having a great week!

TODAY, I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT A CAT!

Maybe we have left you with the impression that this household is anti-feline. This is NOT TRUE. We wish to dispel that impression. Mom and the Boss love cats, but Us dogs merely loooooove to chase them!

The truth is that Mom has quite a severe allergy to kitty-cats. She loves them, but unfortunately cannot stroke them. Doing this will result in horrible welts and her eyes will itch terribly. Her contact lenses have a habit of popping out when she is close to any kitty.

Despite this, it is interesting to note that mom's first pet in this big city was a Cat...whom she called:

"TINNY" .

She purchased the little kitten in a small back-alley pet shop in the centre of the city. She brought this little kitten home and within 24 hours it was running up and down her curtains, across the rails and was stalking Mom and the Boss endlessly. Mom soon realised that she had an allergy to this tiny little creature. The more she tried to overcome this allergy, the more it flared up.

Nothing helped with her affliction, but thank goodness she could indeed LIVE in the same house as TINNY. She merely couldn't TOUCH her. The Boss soon became Tinny's slave, whilst Mom was continually given a look of utter mistrust. Nevertheless, Tinny lived with the Boss (and Mom)for 15 years and died in 1994.

She was a strange cat...a true 'Alley Cat', who'd bring in mice (or shrews or lizards),in the middle of the night, and drop them on the bed for the Boss to eat. (he-he)Strangely too Mom and the Boss never heard her purr, despite endless hours being stroked and loved.

Well, as a result of this experience with Tinny in their household, Mom wrote a poem - in 1994 - which she appropriately entitled:

ODE TO CAT!

(Enjoy!)

That's all for today.

Special licks to all the kitty-cats out there!

Nice poem, lots of people have dog and cat allergies so you are lucky your mom is only allergic to cats.
We love both cats and dogs in this house having had both all our lives although no cat at present!
We miss having a cat however have regular visits from the kitty cat a few doors up.
love

Well, on behalf of Tinkerbell ...

that was a lovely poem - well done to your Mom!

Now, to Clive ...

- yes, indeed I just about put up with Tinkerbell but the not-so-little man loves her so I guess I'll just keep my chase instincts under control for a while longer!!

Take care
Clive and Tinkerbell!!

Hmmm... if your mom is alergic to cats maybe you can keep the next one in a plastic bag.

But it appears that she and Tinny had things worked out OK. Just admire each other from afar.

Hey Max! I'm not making any promises, but I've been considering a trip to South Africa with my brother Pee-Wee. Momma says I have to ask you if that would be OK with you and whether or not your mom knows how to use photoshop and if she does would she be interested in helping to develop photos?

Whatever, this is getting complicated. Have your mom peemail mine to backupdogATcomastDOTnet OK?

Meow! What's all this??

Max, if you tried to chase me, you'd be in for trouble - not now, but later dear friend, later. I'll find out where you sleep, and us cats are nocturnal! Ah, revenge is a dish best served cold Max. Remember that when dealing with cats. If my human steps out of line, all I do is sink my claws into his exposed feet in the middle of the night and run like hell! Purr purr...he is too dazed to catch me, and it gets such a satisfying response, sometimes he even runs into the cupboard while chasing me away. If you chased me, I'd be forced to do the same to you as I do to my human. But you're my friend, so why would I do that? Not without provocation. My human is useful too, and I do love him, but those feet are so soft and squishy, and they feel so good around my claws...ah the temptation.

Where did your 'Mom' get that cat? She looks a bit...erm...well...not quite up to scratch with pedigree kitty standards. I just prefer well bred kitties that won't place corpses on their humans pillows etc, it gives us a bad name, and not purring - ooh...thats very strange too. She sounds like an odd ball that one.

Very good poem. Oh dear, so if I came to visit I'd make your 'Mom' sick? Oh well.

Keep well. I'm glad you're not anti-kitty, otherwise I'd have to take my leave.

Madd.

Woo. That all sounds pretty bad - except for the leaving mice and other fun gifts in the bed! That sounds GREAT!
Having said that, Tinny was certainly a cute kitty and I thoroughly loved your mom's poem!

Max. Do you ever wonder what an Ode to Max might say? We'd be offering suggestions to the author, if we were you.

Just sayin'....
