Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

DREAMING OF A FARM IN AFRICA...

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!!!
MAXDOG here...

Hello there to all my furry buddies from around our beautiful world!

I hope you are all well and coping with whatever your weather is throwing at you.

Here at our house, in JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, we are having simply stunning weather! Mom is thrilled because our gardener has returned from his holiday and has mowed our unruly lawn. Tammy and I have green paws at the moment from walking on the freshly mowed grass. Our Dahlia's continue to flourish!...

BUT...I have become soooo sleepy recently! There is nothing wrong with me health-wise, but I am taking really looooong naps. It's either the warm weather or the fact that I am always at mom's feet and she is NOT on her feet at the moment! She is spending most of her time with her nose close to the computer's keyboard, working on this 'book project' of hers, so I simply stay close to her. Its sleepy work indeed...

Some of you asked what Mom's book is about? Well, obviously we can't spill all the beans because it is a "work in progress" and, as always, has no guarantees. What we can say is that it is a collection of short stories, put together in book form, of a young child growing up in the 1960's, on a farm in rural South Africa. Most of you will know that this era was know as the 'Apartheid era'. Our society was in the midst of dramatic social change at the time. It's a simple story, from a little child's perspective of her life amidst those social dynamics. For the moment, it is under the title:

"A SILVER SPOON FOR AN AFRICAN WHITE CHILD"

This is something that Mom has always wanted to write but hasn't, up until now, got her act together. Hopefully 2010 will be different....time will tell.

As for me....I'm sleepy!!!
I've tried the floor!...

I've tried my bed in the bedroom!....

I've tried out the "Squirt's" bed!...

Nothing seems to take my sleepiness away!
Finally I settled in a comfortable place not too far from Mom!...

...and am dreaming of a farm in Africa....

Hi Max
I think that's a pretty good way of spending your time, snoozing away near Mom while she has her nose stuck into the computer. I spent half of last year doing just that. Us old chaps can't be rushing about all the time you know!
The book sounds very interesting - I trust you will insist on being included in the acknowledgements section, like I did with Gail's thesis.
Oh and I so wish I could be with you enjoying the warm sunshine and the beautiful, colourful flowers (we are very cold and monchrome here in Aberdeen just now).
Cheers, H.

Your dahlias look so beautiful. I plant dahlias every year, but last year, none of them came up at all. I think my soil is too wet. I have been debating whether to plant them at all this year....

Max, you remind me of Goldilocks with your hunt for the best bed!

Your sleepy photos are great!

The very best of luck to your Mom with her book. Murray's Mom has been trying to write a book for past couple of years but she's taking forever. His dad keeps on and on at her about it - which isn't helping!

Love the colours of your dahlias!

take care

I'm new to your blog, (which I am enjoying!!) and have to say that there is nothing that helps inspiration flow than to have a Golden (or two or three or more as we do) at your feet while you write!
I'm envious of all the color you have right now--The Dahlia's are lovely!!! :-))

Max. We feel so lucky to have friends who can share bright colors and fresh flowers when our world is monochrome. Thank you.

We are sure you are providing a soothing comfortable environment for your moma to settle in to write. Even the rhythm of your breathing is probably setting a tone and providing a pace for her. You have a very important job, as she takes on a very important challenge.

Good work.
