MAXDOG's CHRISTMAS TRIBUTE

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

NO WORDS TO ADEQUATELY EXPESS MYSELF!

Hey there everyone!
MAX'S MOM here...
I ask you to please bare with me and forgive me, in advance, but
today is a 'SWEET-BITTER' day for me...

(the 'Bitter' part I will explain later)
so let's begin with the "Sweet"...

I would like to say a really big

THANK YOU

to all my blogging friends for the support and encouragement you have given me over the many months of blogging and also with the voting process for the

AWESOME BLOG AWARD!

We are truly humbled and extremely honoured to receive this award from

and would also like to congratulate
on their similar award!

It has been (and is) a great privilege to have been involved in this process and also to be involved with Doggie-blogs in general. We are continually amazed at the friendship and culture of the doggie community. So THANK YOU to Mango for nominating us and also to ALL our friends for every part you played! You are ALL special, special people and we are extremely grateful to have you all in our lives!!!

---xXx---

Now for the 'bitter' part of this post...

It is the most incredible privilege to be able to spend a part of our lives with a beloved animal. It is that much more dramatic when that animal is one which has worked its way into the small corners of our identity - The place, where you and your pet, have formed a partnership where both your identities are inter-twined. Not many folk experience this in their lifetimes - some have been granted this special gift! You might have gathered that Max & I have one of these special partnerships.

When that little pup arrived in my life, 10 years ago, I knew that one day I would have to face the challenge of seperation.

Today I am scared!

My vet diagnosed Max's first MAST CELL TUMOUR this morning.

The tumour is about 1.5cm big and is located near his right foreleg's armpit.
MAX will be going in for his surgery tomorrow morning and they are also likely to remove a large area of tissue around the site.

Quite frankly, I am petrified!

I know many folk have experienced this kind of news before and I realise both the positive and the negative ramifications of the knowledge available, but it still cuts deep!

"This is my dog
Nothing he lacks
My faithful companion...
this is my MAX!"

Max
Huge congratulations on your totally deserved award!
Well done, we all love you!
Oh but I am so sorry to heard that you have one of those nasty lumps. I am sure you will be brave and I do hope the surgery is successful. Just about this time last year I had a tumour the size of a plum removed from the base of my tongue. The vet said it might come back, but so far I've been OK. So sometimes it appears that these vets (not my favourite people) do know what they're doing and can help you a lot.
Gail and I will be thinking about you tomorrow.
Cheers, H.

I looked at the link you had and it looks like this can vary from not so bad to absolutely horrible and we will keep our paws crossed that you are on the no so bad end. I worry about surgery of any kind but this sounds even more worrisome since they have to take a large area around the tumor too. Please keep us posted as much as you can. As for your mom I can only imagine how she feels. I have had my Moose for 2 and 1/2 years and lately have realized that he has worked his way into who I am and that is wonderful and scary at the same time. Max's mum-

What scary news this must be for you! It so happens that bulldogs are particularly prone to mast cell tumors, and one year ago I was convinced Brutus had one, Did lots of reading on the internet and in professional resources I luckily have resources to as I am a human doctor.

Good news was the result for me. First, because Mast cell tumors tend to be the least invasive of cancers, and second, it was not a tumor but a reaction to a vaccine (distemper) in Brutus' case.

Best wishes to you. Even if it is a Mast cell tumor, don't dismay... Shouldn't be anything that should have any effect on your wonderful relationship wiht Max!

Please keep us posted!!

Hey Caryl,
Two of our Goldens have has cancerous mast cell tumors removed. Jubal, now 10 years old, had his tumor discovered and surgically remover about 5 years ago; he had 2 subsequent "bumps" removed from his face and foreleg about a year later. Once a cancerous tumor is diagnosed the vets are quick to remove any subsequent groeths. Both of the subsequent growth were biopsied as beneign. Homer J. is now 12. He had his tumor diagnosed about 6 months after we adopted him about 3 years ago from a rescue shelter. His was on his side and the vet removed a considerable amount of surrounding tissue. He had no subsequent lumps or growths and hasn't had any related problems since. We have lost 2 Goldens to cancer, Gordon age 15 and chance age 7. Both of their cancers were completely internal with no external lumps being present. Chance had panceatgic cancer which spread to other organs and Gordon simply developed a softball sized tmor within his abdomen. We had about 8 weeks notice with Chance but none with Gordon. We will be in you corner for this fight and our thoughts and prayers are with you in these troubled times.

Dear Max and Max's wonderful humans,

me & Mom are so sad to hear your news, but we are also overwhelmed with the amount of good thoughts, well wishes and prayers doggies & their humans have left you from around the world.

Please know that we too are keeping Max in our thoughts and prayers, and am thinking positive thoughts that surgery will be successful.

Hi there, I'm new to your blog, but I know of it through my dear friend Coco. I just read Max's story about his cancerous tumor and it brought painful tears to my eyes, as I've had two beloved cats that were lost to cancer, Phoebe just as recently as last June. Phoebe's death came on all of a sudden, one day she was fine, the next she went downhill. When she was brought to the vets, that's when we found out that she had a cancerous tumor in her mouth and that it was too far gone to have anything done about it. The best thing for her was to put her out of her misery that same day, something that still haunts me. I am praying with all my might that Max makes it through this well and goes on to live many more happy years.

I also read about your Mom's passing and I wish to express my condolences to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
